habitants atypiques, unusual builders

They live in the countryside away from the busy paths. Their personal involvment led them to live differently away from the big cities. Thus they turned into improvised builders, either by themselves, with their family or with a group of people. They want a simple and healthy home, to live in the wild and in trees, on rivers or underground. Their charming and inventive « constructions » propose other ways of thinking and living. Part of a global process, the conception of their home fullfills everyday needs : to get fed, heated, dressed, and to move around in a respectful way of the environnement. They are straightened by their awareness, full of energy and new ideas. In their choices, being involved means acting. In order to respect their believes they have to break the rules ; To be citizen and responsable involves following the alternatives ways of selfmaking and to reject modern society’s order. Their houses are like them : original and rebel. They wish to share their experience : thanks to those previously isolated moves a new type of countryside house building network appears. Their choices force us to question our contemporary way of life and remind us that it is possible to live differently in the countryside. From mouth to ear, we meet them around France and share the eveyday life of those atypical inhabitants. Irène Brunet
