Le 31 Décembre 2006, le fabricant de chaussures Bata a définitivement quitté Bataville (Moselle), mettant fin à une omniprésence vieille de trois quart de siècle. L’aventure avait commencé dans les années trente lorsque Thomas Bata choisit un site en Lorraine pour y implanter son usine. Très vite, une usine, un centre de formation, des maisons de briques rouges, une piscine, un centre sportif une épicerie, un coiffeur, une ferme, un abattoir, une église, un cinéma, une salle de fête sortaient de terre. La cité ouvrière de Bata était née. Une fourmilière laborieuse où les ouvriers vivaient presque en vase clos.
