I like faces, making faces. It's a childish activity that is permitted under certain circumstances, but generally considered reprehensible by reasonable adults. Young, talentless actors make too many faces. Hams just can't get enough of them. End-of-soirée buffoons are proud of their prowess in this department. But the act of making faces could never be categorised, under any circumstances, as an art form - not even as a minor, or pitiful, art form. Silly competitions and several ridiculous websites do of course exist on the subject. The Book of Records most likely contains two or three images of faces voluntarily deformed by exceptional grimaces, photos stuck in between the portrait of the largest consumer of sausage and a description of the technique to adopt for throwing cherry stones... Nonetheless, I like making faces. Sorry Ma, it isn't pretty or polite, but ever since I was very young I have loved making faces. I have always made them. At first, I didn't even notice, but I have gradually become conscious of the fact. To get the laughers on my side, I harnessed this natural tendancy, punctuating my speech with furtive, ape-like mimics. Now I just can't stop.
